The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley was the first book I read that truly steered my mind into thinking about the history of my physical tribe in America. At 16 years of age, the life of Malcolm X taught me that despite the oppressive nature of American society, specifically as it relatess to Black people, we can come into a greater awareness of self and make decisions that can liberate ourselves from the vices of ignorance and hatred. As “a shining example of our manhood”, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz led a life in total dedication to the pursuit of freedom, truth, justice and equality. His discipline, fearlessness and raw honesty in the face of brutality, lies and death are qualities we should all aspire towards as we navigate our own paths towards freedom, truth, justice and equality in this day and time.

I created this musical mix in honor of the life of our honorable ancestor, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, also known as Malcolm X.
